The plantation program "Prantika" was initiated in 2016 with the primary objective of distributing fruit-bearing plants among students. This initiative aims to promote ecological awareness and sustainable practices within the Sundarbans region of India, which has been grappling with significant environmental challenges. The Sundarbans, known for its unique biodiversity and delicate ecosystem, has been adversely affected by deforestation, habitat degradation, and climate change. "Prantika" seeks to address these ecological problems by fostering a culture of environmental stewardship among the younger generation.
Since its inception, "Prantika" has successfully distributed approximately 2,500 fruit-bearing plants to students. By engaging the students directly in the process of nurturing and caring for these plants, the program not only contributes to the conservation of the Sundarbans but also instils a sense of responsibility and understanding of the importance of preserving our natural resources. Through "Prantika," SACHETA aims to create a sustainable future for the Sundarbans, where both the local communities and the region's unique ecosystem can thrive in harmony.
In addition to its impact in the Sundarbans region, the success of the "Prantika" has led to its replication in Khalisady Village, located in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. Through the expansion of "Prantika" to Khalisady Village, SACHETA endeavours to create a network of environmentally aware individuals, working collectively to address ecological challenges and contribute to the overall well-being of the region.
